RRS 10 : BOATS IN OPPOSITE TACKS
RRS 10 reads :
When boats are on opposite tacks, a port-tack boat shall keep clear of a starboard-tack boat.
Port tack boat releases her sails, slows down with a gentle & smooth little luff, let the 2 right of way boats round the mark.
She, then, can keep on her way without breaking any rule and without loosing time & ground by doing a 360° penalty turn.
Conclusion : Forsee the situation before it happens, decide your move before it's too late
*Note : The leeward starboard tack boat could have continue his course on starboard and not follow the red boat tacking for rounding that mark.

RRS 16.2 : ALTERING COURSE
RRS 16.2 reads :
In addition, when after the starting signal a port-tack boat is keeping clear by sailing to pass astern of a starboard-tack boat, the starboard-tack boat shall not change course if as a result the port-tack boat would immediately need to change course to continue keeping clear.
